XFL Week 1 Prediction

Season Preview

For any new league, it is hard to identify what teams will look like. The AAF last year gave us a glimpse of what some of these teams may look like. Last year we were presented with low scoring games. Because of the ability to score 9 points on one possession, handicapping the XFL is different than any other football game. Until we get a couple of weeks under our belts it is going to be hard to identify the good teams. But here are the teams I like in week 1.

DC Defenders vs Seattle Dragons

Perhaps the biggest name in this game is going to be the DC Defenders QB Cardale Jones. Cardale Jones probably has more talent than anyone else on this football field. As far as Seattle’s QB situation goes, Brandon Silvers showed a lot of promise in his AAF starts last year. He looks like a player that could be good if given the opportunity. DC Defenders head coach Pep Hamilton coached Andrew Luck in both college and the NFL. If he can help Jones as much as he helped Luck, Jones could make the leap to the NFL. I am taking the DC Defenders -7.5 in this game.

Best Bet: DC Defenders -7.5

While PJ Walker is not a super hot name in the football world, but he had an outstanding college career. At Temple Walker set records in all most every QB statistic. His ability to move in the pocket and his arm strength make him a great option at QB. Houston’s coach is June Jones who had a successful coaching career at Hawaii and SMU. While his success didn’t transfer to the NFL, I think that these XFL players will be the right fit for his coaching. I am taking the Houston Roughnecks -6.5 in this game.

Best Bet: Houston Roughnecks -6

New York Guardians vs Tampa Bay Vipers

The Vipers look like one of the best all-around teams lead by QB Aaron Murray. As for the Guardians, they are lead by NFL veteran Matt McGloin who spent several years with the Raiders. The Guardians are lead by former giants OC Kevin Gilbride who coached Eli Manning during both of there Super Bowls. The Vipers are lead by 3 time Grey Cup champion and former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman. This game should be one of the most competitive of week 1. I think this is going to be a low scoring shootout, so I will be taking the Under 52.5 points in this game.

Best Bet: Under 52.5

Dallas Renegades vs St. Louis Battlehawks

Time: 2/9/20 @ 5:00 PM ET
Location: Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX

Spread: Dallas Renegades -9.5

Prediction

Coming into the season Dallas is the favorite to win it all in no small part because of former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops. While at Oklahoma, Stoops won the 2000 National Championship, was named AP Coach of the year and holds an all-time record of 190–48. St. Louis’ head coach Jonathan Hayes played in the NFL for 12 years and was the Bengals TE coach for 15 years. Even though St. Louis QB Jordan Ta’amu is just one year removed from college, he shows very much potential. 9.5 points are just too many to lay in a week 1 game like this. I will be taking the St. Louis Battlehawks +9.5 in this game.

Best Bet: St. Louis Battlehawks +9.5
