CBB Recap 2/29/20
Last week was a crazy week in College Basketball and somehow this week still delivered. In today’s slate of games, 9 AP Top 25 teams lost. I keep thinking at some point this season will start to look normal, but considering its already March I’m starting to lose hope. At least March Madness looks to be full of upsets.
Is Providence Going Dancing
While Providence is still not guaranteed a tournament spot, their chances have undoubtingly gone up. According to Bracket Matrix before this game, they were one of the last 4 teams in. This win over Villanova may have been exactly what they needed to get into the tournament. Providence is a team that is getting hot at just the right time.
How do you erase early season losses to Penn, Long Beach State, and Charleston?

Sweep Marquette, beat Creighton and Seton Hall at home and also win at Villanova and Butler.
Providence is trending up. https://t.co/zEcrE5oKPq

Can Shaka Shock the World
There is no denying the fact that most people in the college basketball world think Shaka Smart is all but done at Texas. Currently, they are nowhere close to the tournament, but with a few breaks in the Big 12 tournament they could sneak there way in. While Shaka Smart will most likely be on the open market come April, there is still a chance he can turn it around. This win over a ranked Texas Tech team is a step in the right direction.
Not done yet.

Baylor Falls Again
After being dethroned against Kanas last week, Baylor once again found themselves down late. They lead for a large portion of this game but let the lead slip late. It will be interesting to see how this loss affects there tournament seeding. Only time will tell if this loss lost them there number 1 seed.

Kansas now controls its own destiny to win an outright Big 12 regular season title.

Clemson Takes Down Florida State
Coming into this game Florida State was sitting atop the ACC. While they are still solidly in the Top 10, this is a game that you have to win if you are a team with 1 seed potential. While they have all most certainly lost out on a potential 1 seed in the longer term it really won’t matter. A strong ACC tournament will do a lot to help this team.

West Virginia Continues to Fall
Ever since Kansas beat West Virginia in Morgantown they have been struggling. Oklahoma controlled this game from the opening tip. We appear to be setting up an early exit in the Big 12 tournament for West Virginia. West Virginia had quite a few good early season wins, but they have some very questionable losses as of late.

Virginia Takes Down Duke
Duke was in a prime position to overtake Florida State in the ACC standings. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t pull off the win at Virginia. For Virginia, this win is a big resume booster for them. While they currently look like a tournament team every little thing they can do will help to cement that.

Michigan State Defeats Maryland
This was one of those games where Michigan State seemed to make every shot they put up. The perfect example happened right before half time when Cassius Winston hit a half-court buzzer-beater. While Michigan State has not lived up to there preseason number 1 ranking, they still have a few impressive wins. Even after this loss, Maryland is still one of the best teams in the Big Ten.
